The Cerritos
College women's soccer team recorded a 3-2
non-conference win at San Bernardino Valley College
on Thursday to help hold on to their unbeaten record
and #1 ranking in the nation. The Falcons (13-0-3)
received two goals from freshman midfielder
Salina
Flores (Los Alamitos HS),
while the Wolverines were the first team this season
to score two goals against Cerritos. The team comes
back on Friday and will travel to Los Angeles Harbor
College for a 4:00 p.m. South Coast Conference game.
In the first half,
the Falcons took a 2-0 on two late goals. In the
40th minute, Flores scored on a nice free kick from
30 yards out, as she bent the ball around the
defense and past San Bernardino Valley goalkeeper
Maria Magana. Just two minutes later, sophomore
forward
Monique
Cisneros (Mayfair HS)
registered her team-leading 26th goal after
receiving a long pass from freshman forward
Liliana Leos
(Southeast HS). Cisneros was able to run
under the pass and followed with a hard shot into
the goal.
The Wolverines cut
the Cerritos lead to 2-1 when the Falcons attempted
to clear the ball and it deflected off Julie Diaz,
who was credited with the goal after it went over
the head of freshman goalkeeper
Tiffany
Hollis (Lakewood HS).
Sophomore goalkeeper
Chantal
Cervero (Cerritos HS) played the
first half for the Falcons and made three saves.
Cerritos
regained their two-goal advantage in the 78th
minute, as Flores showed again how deadly she can be
with a free kick. This time, she was 35 yards out
and drilled a powerful shot into the net for her
second of the game and fourth of the season. The
Wolverines made it interesting when Marisa Zamorez
lined a shot over the head of Hollis in the 85th
minute. Hollis posted four saves in the second half.
