Starting his
third year with the Falcon coaching staff is
Guillermo "Memo" Gonzalez, who comes in with
professional playing experience, playing
midfielder for the Los Angeles Galaxy in
Major League Soccer from 2003-06. In his
four years in MLS, Gonzalez did not see much
playing time due to youth team commitments,
but was a member of their 2005 MLS
Championship team.
Gonzalez graduated from the Edison Academic
Center in Bradenton, FL in 2003, which is a
full-time residency program for the US
Under-17 Men's National Team. That same year
he graduated, he was joined by pro players
Eddie Gaven and Freddy Adu. At the time,
Gonzalez became one of the youngest players
in MLS history to be drafted when the Galaxy
chose him as a Project-40 player with the
eighth overall pick of the 2003 MLS
SuperDraft. Gonzalez spent most of his first
year in the pros with the Under-17 US
National Team, playing at the Under-17 World
Championship in Finland. He also played on
the US National Under-14, Under-15, Under-17
and Under 20 teams. Locally, Gonzalez played
club soccer with Cerritos United, Upland
Celtic and Irvine Strikers, while he spent
his freshman year at St. John Bosco High. He
was also a member of the Cal South State
Team, as well as a member of the Regional
team.
His coaching experience now includes four
years of club soccer for Cypress, PSC and
OCP, as well as an assistant girls coach at
Bishop Amat High. He has also worked with an
Under-14 and Under-10 Boys teams, while he
has also been a coach for an Under-19 Boys
Premier team. Additionally, Gonzalez has
been an assistant at Immaculate Heart High
School and with the Under-15 boys team that
was a semi-finalist for the National Cup. He
also founded Memo’s Kids Foundation, which
holds camps for kids, as well as soccer
clinics. |
