In their 2-0 South
Coast Conference win over Los Angeles Harbor College
on Friday afternoon, the Cerritos College women's
soccer team posted their 11th straight shutout in a
row and their 17th on the year. The Falcons (18-1-0
overall, 11-1-0 SCC), who are the defending national
champions and two-time state champions, have just
two more regular season games remaining before they
open Southern California Regional Playoff action.
The team will play their final two games at home, as
they host El Camino College on Tuesday at East Los
Angeles College on Friday, with both games starting
at 3:00 p.m.
After a scoreless
first half, Cerritos got on the board in the 65th
minute when sophomore
Vanessa Monreal
(Lynwood HS) headed a rebound to freshman
Jessica Ortiz (Narbonne HS),
who volleyed the ball into the net. Just 10 minutes
later, freshman
Morgan Thompson (Mayfair
HS) saw her throw-in go to freshman
Tatiana Cortes (La Mirada HS), who
then headed the ball to freshman
Miranda
Madrid (St. Joseph's HS). Not
wasting any time, Madrid turned an scored the
insurance goal.
On the day, the
Falcons posted 20 shots on goal and limited LA
Harbor to just three. Freshman
Laura Ropp
(Lakewood HS) recorded the shutout, her
10th on the year, and was not required to make any
saves.
