    The Cerritos College women's soccer team ended their regular season at home on Friday with a 2-0 South Coast Conference win over East Los Angeles College. The Falcons, who will now wait until Monday to find out where they are seeded for the Southern California Regional Playoffs, are the two-time defending state champions and were named the national champions last season. The first round of the playoffs is scheduled for next Saturday.

 

    The Falcons got on the board in the 25th minute when freshman Jessica Ortiz (Narbonne HS) sent a perfect corner kick to freshman Tatiana Cortes (La Mirada HS), who headed the ball into the net. Ortiz had just checked into the game for the corner kick and made an immediate impact. In fact, Ortiz had a hand in the second goal, as she scored her 13th on the season right before halftime.

 

    Freshman Daniela Mendez (Internacional de Guatemala) sent the ball to the far side of the box to Ortiz, who found the low left corner of the net and scored past Huskies goalkeeper Charlene Flores.

 

    Cerritos controlled the ball the majority of the game and recorded 12 shots on goal. The freshmen goalkeeping tandem of Erika Trejo (Artesia HS) and Laura Ropp (Lakewood HS) combined to make three saves and recorded their record-tying 18th shutout of the year. Last year's team also finished with 18 shutouts on the season.
