Freshman forward
Jessica Ortiz (Narbonne HS)
scored a pair of goals and assisted on another, while sophomore forward
Nancy Gandarilla (Long Beach Millikan
HS) tied a school record with four assists, as the
Cerritos College women's soccer team defeated ECC
Compton Center 8-0 in a South Coast Conference match
on Tuesday. The win improved the Falcons record to
9-1-1 overall and 2-1-0 in conference play. They
will now travel to Long Beach City College for a
4:00 p.m. conference game on Friday.
As for Ortiz, she
accounted for all three of her points in the second half,
with one goal coming off a direct kick and the
assist coming on a
corner kick with freshman
Morgan
Thompson (Mayfair HS) scoring
the goal. The four helpers by Gandarilla
ties the school record set by Erin Kingsbury
in 1995 and gives her 15 for the season. The school
record for most assists in a season is 18, set by Corina
Villegas last season.
The scoring
started in the fifth minute when freshman
Miranda
Madrid (St. Joseph's HS) sent
the ball into the box, where freshman
Tiffany
Schultz (Mater Dei HS) chipped
it over the Lady Tartar goalkeeper's hands. Freshman
Tatiana Cortes (La Mirada HS)
and Gandarilla teamed up for the next two goals in
the span of four minutes, while freshman
Victoria Florez (Bishop Amat HS)
closed out the scoring in the first half in the 41st
minute with Gandarilla collecting the assist.

saves in the game and earned her eighth shutout of
