Sophomore forward
Nancy Gandarilla (Long
Beach Millikan HS) scored three times in the
first half for the Cerritos College women's soccer
team in a South Coast Conference game at East Los
Angeles College on Tuesday afternoon. The three
goals held up, as the Falcons posted a 3-0 win to
improve to 13-1-0 overall and 6-1-0 in conference
play. The defending state and national champions,
who are currently ranked #4 in the country, will
look to avenge their only loss of the season when
they host Mt. San Antonio College at 4:00 p.m. on
Friday. Back on September 29, the Mounties defeated
Cerritos 3-1, which snapped their 46-game unbeaten
streak.
Gandarilla opened
the scoring in the 8th minute after freshman
midfielder
Ruby Leon
(Fontana HS) controlled the ball on the
left sideline and sent a ball in to the top of the
box. Gandarilla was there to receive the ball and
scored her first of three goals. The second came
just four minutes later after the Huskies goalkeeper
was unable to clear the ball away. Gandarilla took
the ball and sent a hard shot into the lower corner.
It was a repeat performance in the 20th minute with Gandarilla
collecting another bad clearance attempt and calmly
scored her team-leading 12th goal of the season.
Freshman
goalkeeper
Laura Ropp
(Lakewood HS) started her third game of the
season and played the first 77 minutes, while making
three saves. She came out in favor of freshman
Erika Trejo (Artesia HS), who
posted one save in the final 13 minutes to earn a
share of the shutout.
