Rosero's
(Downey HS) first place finish in the
500-yard freestyle, the Cerritos College women's
swimming team is holding on to third place after
the first day of the South Coast Conference
Swimming Championships at Pasadena City College.
The second of the three-day championships is
scheduled for Friday.
Rosero just beat Rachel Turner of
Chaffey College in the 500-yard
freestyle, as her time of 5:21.41 was .42
seconds ahead of Turner, who led entire race
until the last few yards. The Falcons also
received a second place finish in the 400-yard
medley relay, as the team of
Rosero,
Daisy Carrillo (Montebello HS),
Salina
Mesa (Montebello HS) and
Denise
Vega (Montebello HS)
posted a time of 4:29.64. In the other relay
race, Vega,
Lisa
Valdez (El Rancho HS),
Brittany Paulsen (Gahr
HS) and
Angela
Chiaromonte (Schurr
HS) turned in a time of 1:57.55, which put
them in sixth place.
The top
individual finishes came from Carrillo in the
100-meter individual medley (1:07.78), who came
in fifth place, while Vega (1:11.63) came in
ninth place. In the 50-yard freestyle, Paulsen
finished in 30.55, which put her in eighth
place.
