Freshman
Stephanie Rosero (Downey HS) is
already making a name for herself with the
Cerritos College women’s swimming team, as she
won the South Coast Conference championship in
the 50-yard backstroke on the second day of the
conference championships at Pasadena City
College. In addition to winning the event, she
broke her own school record with a time of
28.37. It is the third time she has broken the
record this year and beat her closest
competition by three seconds. The record she
beat was a time of 29.01 that she set at the
Pasadena Invitational two weeks ago. The final
day of competition is set for Saturday at
Pasadena City College.
In a
pair of relay races, the team finished in third
place in both, as the quartet of Rosero,
freshman
Hannah Llamas (Gahr HS),
sophomore
Salina
Mesa (Montebello HS) and
sophomore
Daisy Carrillo (Montebello HS)
turned in a time of 2:00.16 in the 200-yard
medley relay. It broke the old record of
2:00.50, which was established last year by Roxy
Cariaga, Ashley Badali, Mesa and Carrillo. As
for the 800-yard freestyle relay race, the team
of Carrillo, Mesa, freshman
Denise
Vega (Montebello HS) and Rosero
turned in a time of 8:43.52.
After
the first two days, the Falcons are in third
place with 319 team points and trail Long Beach
City College, who has 330 points and the
front-runner, Chaffey College, who leads with
541 points.
Cerritos
also received a second place finish in the
50-yard butterfly from Mesa, who checked in with
a time of 28.38, while Carrillo finished in
fourth place in the 200-yard individual medley
with a time of 2:30.99.
