The Cerritos College women’s swimming team
will be represented by two athletes at this
weekend’s State Swimming Championships at
Saddleback College. Freshman
Stephanie Rosero (Downey HS)
will compete in three events, while
sophomore
Salina Mesa (Montebello HS)
will swim in two events. At the South Coast
Conference Championships this past weekend,
Rosero set two school records and won three
events, while Mesa finished second in one
event and third in another.
For
Rosero, she will compete in the 50-yard
backstroke, 100-yard backstroke and 500-yard
freestyle. She enters the state
championships with the second best time in
the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 28.37,
which trails only Kimberly Bierwirth of
Diablo Valley College, who enters with a
time of 26.62. Her time of 1:01.66 in the
100-yard backstroke is the fifth fastest,
while she qualified 12th in the
500-yard freestyle with a season-best time
of 5:21.41.
Mesa, who placed sixth in the 50-yard
butterfly and seventh in the 100-yard
butterfly last year at the state
championships and was an All-American
selection, qualified again in both events.
Her time of 1:02.13 in the 100-yard
butterfly qualified her 10th,
while she enters 16th in the
50-yard butterfly with a time of 28.38. Mesa
turned in a time of 27.97 in the state
championships last year in the 50-yard
butterfly, while her time in the 100-yard
butterfly this year is her personal best.
