The Cerritos College women’s swimming team split their
two matches in their first South Coast Conference
competition of the season. The Falcons (1-1), recorded
an 87-35 win over El Camino College, while they were
defeated, 94-28 by Chaffey College. This weekend, the
team will compete in the Cuesta Invitational.
Freshman
Stephanie
Rosero (Downey HS) won three events for
the Falcons, as she set a new school record in the
100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:03.31, eclipsing
the old standard of 1:03.83 set in 1979. Rosero beat her
closest competition by five seconds, with freshman
teammate
Maria
Gutierrez (Buena Park HS) placing fourth.
As for the 100-yard individual medley, Rosero won the
event with a time of 1:04.95, six seconds faster that
the second place finisher. Freshman teammate
Angela
Chiaromonte (Schurr HS) was a fourth
place finisher in the race with a time of 1:18.89. Her
third win came in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of
29.64. Last weekend, Rosero set a new school record in
the event with a time of 29.31.
Sophomore
Salina Mesa
(Montebello HS) posted two second places finishes
and a third place, while freshman
Hannah Llamas
(Gahr HS) placed third in two events. For Mesa,
she turned in a time of 28.61 in the 50-yard butterfly
and 1:04.69 in the 100-yard butterfly, while her time of
2:11.46 was good for third place in the 200-yard
freestyle. As for Llamas, she placed third in the
50-yard freestyle (28.86) and 100-yard freestyle
(1:03.94), with the duo of freshman
Denise Vega
(Montebello HS) and sophomore
Janine Boutte
(Downey HS) placing third and fourth,
respectively in the 500-yard freestyle. Sophomore
Daisy
Carrillo (Montebello HS) finished in
third with a time of 12:16.13 in the 1000-yard
freestyle. |
