It came down to
the 400-yard freestyle relay for the Cerritos
College and Mt. San Antonio College women's swimming
teams on Friday in their South Coast Conference
meet. With the Falcons leading, 61-59, they would
need to win the race, or the Mounties would pick up
the seven points for first place and come away with
the victory. Mt. SAC did just that, as their time of
4:00.76 was faster than the time of 4:05.04, and the
Mounties registered a 66-61 victory. The Falcons
will now travel to Pasadena City College on Friday
to face the Lancers and Los Angeles Trade-Tech
College in a three-way conference meet.
Carrillo posted
three first-place finishes, with the first two
coming in the first two events of the meet. She
teamed with
Salina Mesa
(Montebello HS),
Rosero and
Hannah
Llamas (Gahr
HS) to win the 200-yard medley relay
(2:02.12) and followed that with a win in the
1000-yard freestyle with a time of 12:35.01. She
also put the team ahead in the second to last event,
by winning the 100-yard individual medley with a
time of 1:09.28. Mesa and
Rosero also won three events, with Mesa
picking up wins in the 100-yard butterfly (1:05.04)
and 50-yard butterfly (35.09), while
Rosero won the 50-yard backstroke (29.16) and
100-yard backstroke (1:03.39, along with their relay
win. Also coming in first place on the day was diver
Hilary Baca, who was the lone
competitor.
