Cerritos College freshman swimmer
Stephanie Rosero (Downey
HS) was the lone entry on the first
day of the California Community College
Athletic Association Women's Swimming
Championships at Saddleback College on
Friday. Rosero, who is one of two
Falcons that qualified for the state
championships, earned four team points
for her 13th place finish in the
500-yard freestyle. The state
championships run through Saturday, with
all events held at Saddleback.
Rosero's time of 5:22.96 earned her 13th
place after she finished in 15th place
in the preliminaries. She is scheduled
to swim in two more events, and will
compete in the 50-yard backstroke on
Friday. She will be joined by sophomore
Salina Mesa (Montebello
HS), who qualified in the 50-yard
butterfly. The two will also swim on
Saturday, with Rosero in the 100-yard
backstroke and Mesa in the 100-yard
butterfly. Last year, Mesa finished
sixth at the state championships in the
50-yard butterfly and seventh in the
100-yard butterfly.
