Cerritos College freshman
swimmer
Stephanie Rosero (Downey
HS) only held the school
record in the 100-yard
backstroke for one week. That's
because she broke her own record
on the third day of the
California Community College
Women's Swimming Championships
on Saturday at Saddleback
College. Rosero, who also
checked in with a third place
(50-yard backstroke) and a 13th
place (500-yard freestyle)
earlier in the weekend,
concluded her season with a
fifth place finish in the
100-yard backstroke with a time
of 1:00.95.
Last week, Rosero won the South
Coast Conference championship
with a record time of 1:01.66,
but had enough of a kick at the
end of the race today to pull
off a fifth place finish and set
a new standard. Sophomore
Salina Mesa (Montebello
HS) joined her in
competition on Saturday and
finished in 12th place in the
100-yard butterfly with a time
of 1:02.95. Mesa also finished
in 13th place in the 50-yard
butterfly. As a team, the
Falcons finished in 18th place
with 42.5 team points.
