After qualifying for the
state championships, a pair
of Cerritos College women's
swimmers have earned
All-American honors for
their efforts. Freshman
Stephanie Rosero
(Downey HS) and
sophomore
Salina Mesa (Montebello
HS), who were the lone
Falcons to qualify for the
state championships, were
both named Community College
All-Americans. The top 16
times in the country in each
swimming event among
community college swimmers
earned All-American status.
Rosero, who finished third
in the state championships
in the 50-yard backstroke,
registered the third-fastest
time in the country at
28.29, which also
established a new school
record. Her time of 1:00.95
in the 100-yard backstroke,
also a school record,
garnered her a fifth place
finish in the state
championships. It also
marked the seventh-fastest
time in the country.
Earning All-American honors
for the second year in a row
was Mesa, who placed 13th in
the state championships in
the 50-yard butterfly and
12th in the 100-yard
butterfly. Her best time of
the year in the 50-yard
butterfly, 28.21, was the
15th fastest in the country,
while her clocking of
1:02.13 earned her national
honors as the 14th fastest
time. Mesa earned
All-American honors on both
events as a freshman.
