It wouldn't be a
Cerritos College swimming meet without at least one
record being broken. On Friday, the Falcons competed
in a South Coast Conference three-way meet and
recorded wins over host Pasadena City College
(82-45) and Mt. San Antonio College, 80-50. Along
the way, one more school record was broken, just two
weeks after it was set. The Falcons will now compete
in another conference three-way meet on Friday at
2:30 p.m. when they travel to Long Beach City
College, with Los Angeles Trade-Tech College joining
them.
In the first meet
of the season, the quartet of freshmen
Gina Kim
(Cerritos HS),
Jenel Lopez
(La Serna HS),
Natalie Peng
(Cerritos HS) and sophomore
Hannah
Llamas (Gahr HS) broke the
school record in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a
time of 3:49.99. On Friday, the team of Peng,
freshman
Bianca
Garcia (Bravo HS), Kim and
Lopez beat that time, as they registered a clocking
of 3:47.89, which won the event. The same four
swimmers also won the 200-yard medley relay with a
time of 1:57.39, just shy of the school record.
Peng was a
three-time winner for the Falcons, as she won the
50-yard freestyle (25.10), 50-yard butterfly (26.93)
and 100-yard butterfly (1:00.16). Winning two
individual events for the Falcons was freshman
Brittni Kimura (Los Altos HS)
in the distance races, as she captured the
500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:44.50 and the
1000-yard freestyle in a time of 12:02.78. Kim also
won two races, posting a first place time in
the 50-yard backstroke (30.56) and the 100-yard
backstroke (1:05.23), with Lopez coming in first
place in the 100-yard freestyle (54.62).
