The Cerritos
College women's swimming team improved their South
Coast Conference record to 6-0 after defeating host
El Camino College (97-25) and Rio Hondo College
(110-10) on Friday afternoon. The Falcons close out
their conference regular season on Friday when they
travel to Chaffey College for a 2:30 p.m. meet.
In the pair of
wins, Cerritos received three wins each from a trio
of swimmers, led by freshman
Natalie Peng
(Cerritos HS), who set a pair of pool
records at El Camino. Peng posted a new pool record
in the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 27.05, while
her time of 59.26 in the 100-yard butterfly was also
a pool record. She completed her trio of wins in the
100-yard freestyle with a time of 55.19. In the
100-yard butterfly, freshman teammate
Angie Silva
(Pioneer HS) was her closest competition
with a second place finish time of 1:08.90. Freshman
Karen Aguirre (Downey HS)
finished second in the 50-yard butterfly with a time
of 30.70, while sophomore
Hannah
Llamas (Gahr HS) was a distant
second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of
59.95.
Also winning three
events was freshman
Jenel Lopez
(La Serna HS), who captured the 50-yard
freestyle (25.17), 200-yard freestyle (1:59.38) and
500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:27.10. Llamas
placed second in the 200-yard freestyle race with a
time of 2:13.91, with freshman
Melinda
Guevara (Cerritos HS) coming
in second in the 50-yard freestyle (27.03) and
freshman
Brittni
Kimura (Los Altos HS) posting
a time of 5:45.56 in the 500-yard freestyle for
second place. Kimura also won the 1000-yard
freestyle with a time of 11:40.16.
Freshman
Gina Kim
(Sunny Hills HS) was also a three-event
winner, as she won the 50-yard backstroke (29.11),
100-yard backstroke (1:03.53) and 100-yard IM with a
time of 1:04.97. Aguirre was a third place finisher
in the 50-yard backstroke (32.28), with freshman
Andy Garcia (Gahr HS)
registering a second place finish in the 100-yard IM
with a time of 1:10.23. Freshman
Bianca
Garcia (Bravo HS) was a
two-event winner, as she placed first in both the
50-yard breaststroke (35.88) and 100-yard
breaststroke (1:17.35).
