With their 90-40
South Coast Conference win at Chaffey College on
Friday afternoon, the Cerritos College women's
swimming team concluded their conference season with
a perfect 7-0 record. It marks the first time in the
program's history that they went undefeated in SCC
action. The team will now compete in the Pasadena
Invitational this weekend starting on Friday.
Highlighting the
win over the Panthers were 14 individual wins by the
Falcons, with three swimmers winning three events
each, while another won two events. Freshman
Jenel Lopez (La
Serna HS) came out on top in the 50-yard
freestyle (25.37), 200-yard freestyle (2:00.91) and
500-yard freestyle (5:25.24) to help lead the team
to the win. As a team, Cerritos won all of the
freestyle races, as freshman
Natalie Peng
(Cerritos HS) won the 100-yard freestyle
with a time of 54.83, while freshman
Brittni
Kimura (Los Altos HS) captured
the 1000-yard freestyle when she turned in a time of
11:44.92.
In addition to her
win in the 100-yard freestyle, Peng easily beat the
field in the 50-yard butterfly (26.93) and 100-yard
butterfly, with a time of 59.76. Freshman
Karen
Aguirre (Downey HS) was her
closest competition in the 100-yard butterfly, as
she turned in a second place time of 1:07.69, while
sophomore
Vivian
Aguirre (Downey HS) saw her
time of 31.74 in the 50-yard butterfly earn her
second place.
Freshman
Gina Kim
(Sunny Hills HS) continued to win all of
her events, as she picked up victories in the
50-yard backstroke (29.38), 100-yard backstroke
(1:03.92) and 100-yard IM, with a time of 1:06.16.
At the same time, freshman
Bianca
Garcia (Bravo HS) was winning
the 50-yard breaststroke in a time of 35.05, while
her clocking of 1:14.98 won the 100-yard
breaststroke.
For good measure,
the Falcons also won the 200-yard medley relay with
a time of 1:56.58, while their time of 4:05.09
earned them a first place finish in the 400-yard
freestyle relay.
