After the best
season in the history of Cerritos College swimming,
it was announced that four of the relay teams and
four individual times earned All-American status.
The top 15 times in the country in each event earns
All-American recognition. The Falcons, who finished
11th at the state championships this season, broke
13 of the team's 19 school records along the way.
Freshman
Natalie Peng
(Cerritos HS), who broke three individual
school records, saw all of those times earn
All-American honors, while freshman
Jenel Lopez
(La Serna HS) had one of her five school
records receive All-American status.
Peng turned in the
third fastest time in the country in the 100-yard
butterfly with a time of 57.89, which earned her a
second place finish at the state championships. She
finished fifth in the state championships with a
time of 26.32 in the 50-yard butterfly, which was
also the seventh fastest in the country, while her
time of 1:02.33 in the 100-meter individual medley
was the 13th fastest in the country. Peng also
finished 13th in the state championships in the
event. As for Lopez, her time of 1:55.74 at the
state championships earned her a fifth place, while
it was the 10th fastest in the country.
In the relay
events, the 200-yard freestyle team of freshmen
Gina
Kim (Sunny Hills HS) and
Bianca Garcia (Bravo HS),
along with Peng and Lopez, recorded the 13th fastest
time in the country at 1:53.31, while the same
quartet finished 11th in the state championships in
the 400-yard medley relay, which was the 13th
fastest time in the country. In the 800-yard
freestyle relay, Peng, freshman
Brittni
Kimura (Los Altos HS), Kim and
Lopez came in 10th place at the state championship
and the 13th fastest in the country, with Lopez,
sophomore
Hannah
Llamas (Gahr HS), Peng and Kim
earned All-American honors in the 400-yard
freestyle. The team came in 11th at the state
championships and posted the 14th fastest time in
the country.
