The Cerritos College women's swimming team
competed in five more events on the second day
of the State Championships on Friday, and are
currently in 12th place with 87 team points.
They finish off the season on Saturday at Mt.
San Antonio College for the third sate of the
championships.
The top finisher for the Falcons on Friday was
sophomore Jenel
Lopez (La Serna HS), who
took fourth place in the 200-yard freestyle with
a school-record time of 1:55.24. Lopez, who came
in fifth place in the state championships as a
freshman, broke the time she set last year
(1:55.74) with a new record time of 1:55.24.
Sophomore
Gina Kim
(Sunny Hills HS), who took 15th place
in the 50-yard backstroke last season, improved
on that by coming in ninth place with a time of
28.76, while sophomore
Stephanie Rosero (Downey HS)
was timed in 29.48, good for 11th place. As a
freshman in 2008, Rosero placed third in the
event. Sophomore
Natalie Peng (Cerritos HS),
who came in fifth last year in the 50-yard
butterfly, dropped to 16th this season with a
time of 28.14.
In the relay events, the Falcons broke another
school record, as the team of freshman
Jessica Ku
(Cerritos HS), Lopez, Kim and Rosero
placed 10th with a time of 8:10.27. They beat
the time of 8:11.29 set in last week's South
Coast Conference Championships by Rosero, Kim,
freshman
Sofia Patronas (Downey HS)
and Lopez. In the 200-yard medley relay, the
quartet of Kim, Lopez, Peng and Ku took 12th
place at 1:54.33.
