The Cerritos College women's swimming team won
three relay races and came in second place in
another, while they picked up four individual
first place finishes at the Golden West
Invitational on Friday. The Falcons, who
finished in third place with 581 team points,
trailed only the host Rustlers (754 team points)
and Riverside (747). The team will now host
their first South Coast Conference swim meet in
their new Aquatic Center on Friday at 2:30 p.m.
when Long Beach City College and El Camino
College come to compete.
In the 200-yard medley relay, the team of Kim,
Silva, Patronas and Rosero won the race in
2:00.39, while the same team won the 400-yard
medley relay with a time of 4:24.52. The final
event of the invitational, the 400-yard
freestyle relay, Cerritos took a close second
place, as the same four swimmers registered a
time of 3:56.80.
In individual races, Kim won three more times,
with a time of 1:02.58 to capture the 100-yard
backstroke, while her times in the 29.40 in the
50-yard backstroke and 1:06.15 in the 100-yard
IM were better than the rest of the field. In
the 100-yard backstroke, Rosero took fifth place
with a time of 1:04.38, with Silva placing third
in the 100-yard IM in 1:07.97.
Patronas won the 100-yard butterfly with a time
of 1:01.50, while Silva was in third place at
1:05.53. Sophomore
Wendy Spradlin (Gahr HS)
took seventh in the race at 1:10.96. Patronas
recorded a pair of second place finishes, as she
finished the 200-yard IM in 2:20.44, and 2:06.91
in the 200-yard freestyle. Rosero posted a
second place finish, as her time of 5:38.49 in
the 500-yard freestyle just missed out on
winning the race, while Kimura finished in fifth
place at 5:49.47. Rosero also came in fourth
place in the 200-yard freestyle (2:07.70), while
Silva was third in the 100-yard IM at 1:07.97.
