05.09.09 - Samantha Nadres loses in state championship match
Facing the top-seeded player in Southern California, Cerritos College freshman women's tennis player Samantha Nadres (Troy HS) was at a bit of a disadvantage, as she was coming off a hard fought semi-final match at the State Championship at American River College on Saturday. Nadres seemed to have overcome any fatigue, as she took a commanding 4-0 lead in the first set in the championship match against Ashley Litchfield of Ventura College. But Litchfield came back and posted a 7-6 (1) win in the first set. Once again, Nadres took a lead (2-0) in the second set, but Litchfield swept the final six games to capture the title...[more]

05.08.09 - Pair of wins sends Nadres to state semi-finals
At the Southern California Regional Tournament last weekend, Cerritos College freshman women's tennis player Samantha Nadres (Troy HS) was defeated in the quarterfinals by Palomar College's Arina Polovnikova in three sets. In the quarterfinals of the state championships at American River College on Friday, Nadres exacted her revenge with a 6-1, 6-3 win to advance to the semi-finals. The Cerritos College women's tennis team will be represented in the state championships at American River College next weekend by freshman Samantha Nadres (Troy HS) in both singles and doubles competition. Cerritos College freshman women's tennis player Samantha Nadres (Troy HS) opened the Southern California Regional Playoffs at Orange Coast College on Thursday as the #4 seeded singles player. She received a bye in the first round, then shut out Nicole Toches of Grossmont College, 6-0, 6-0. 04.20.09 - Falcons lose to Cuesta in the playoffs
The Cerritos College women's tennis team squared off against Cuesta College in the first round of the Southern California Regional Team Playoffs for the second straight year. For the Falcons, the end result was the same as last year, as the #2-seeded Cougars (13-0) posted a 5-1 win over #7-seeded Cerritos, ending their team season at 12-4. For the upcoming Southern California Regional singles and doubles tournament, the Cerritos College women's tennis team will be well represented. In addition to three singles players advancing from the South Coast Conference Tournament, all four Falcon doubles teams have advanced. 04.14.09 - Weather postpones match
Due to 60-mile an hour winds, the Cerritos College women's tennis match at Cuesta College in the first round of the Southern California Regional Playoffs has been postponed until next Monday at Cuesta. The Falcons, seeded #7 in the playoffs, had just started their match against the #2-seeded Cougars when the winds blew through. 04.13.09 - Cerritos to face Cuesta in playoffs
On the heels of their third straight South Coast Conference championship, and fifth in the last six years, the Cerritos College women's tennis team has been seeded #7 in the Southern California Regional Playoffs. 03.26.09 - Falcons clinch third straight conference title
The Cerritos College women's tennis team clinched their third straight South Coast Conference championship and fifth in the last six years after a 9-0 win at Long Beach City College on Thursday. The Falcons, 12-3 overall, finished the conference season with an 8-1 record and will be seeded in the Southern California Playoffs, which will be announced at a later date. On the strength of their 8-1 win over Mt. San Antonio College on Tuesday afternoon, the Cerritos College women's tennis team moved back into first place in the South Coast Conference with just one match remaining. For the second time in 12 days, the Cerritos College women’s tennis team posted a South Coast Conference shutout win over Long Beach City College. 03.12.09 - Falcons post conference victory

Women's Tennis posted a conference victory over El Camino College on Thursday afternoon.The Cerritos College women's tennis team won four straight-set singles matches and followed that with three straight-set doubles victories to lead the team to an 8-1 home victory over El Camino College on Thursday afternoon. With the win, the Falcons are now 8-3 overall and 4-1 in South Coast Conference action. The team will now travel to Long Beach City College for a 2:00 p.m. SCC match on Thursday.

Leading the way on the win was freshman Samantha Nadres (Troy HS), who returned from an injury to post a 6-3, 6-2 win in the top spot on the ladder. Freshman Michelle Yi (Warren HS), who was extended to three sets, pulled out a 6-3, 3-6, 10-7 victory, while the bottom three all won in straight sets. Freshman Christina Nguyen (Gahr HS) posted a 6-1, 6-3 win, while freshman Alana Johnson (Gahr HS) and sophomore Shamariah DeRojas (La Mirada HS) each won by scores of 6-1, 6-0...[more]

03.05.09 - Cerritos shuts out Long Beach City

San Antonio College on Tuesday, the Cerritos College women's tennis team came right back and easily defeated Long Beach City College, 9-0 in a South Coast Conference match. With the win, the Falcons are now 7-3 overall and 3-1 in conference action. They will now host El Camino College in another SCC match at 2:00 p.m. next Thursday.

Cerritos dominated in both singles and doubles, as they lost just four games in singles play and five in doubles action. From the third position down to the sixth, the Falcons shut out the Vikings, 6-0, 6-0, with wins coming from freshmen Christina Nguyen (Gahr HS) and Alana Johnson (Gahr HS), while sophomores Shamariah DeRojas (La Mirada HS) and Cristina Sanchez (La Mirada HS) also posted shutouts. Just 24 hours after dispatching Mt. San Antonio College, the Cerritos College women's tennis team headed south and posted a 7-2 non-conference win at San Diego Mesa College on Friday afternoon. The win was the sixth in a row for the Falcons, who are now 6-2 on the season. They return to SCC action on Tuesday when they travel to Mt. San Antonio for the start of the second of three rounds in conference action...[more]

02.26.09 - Cerritos now 5-2 after fifth straight win

SAC.The bottom half of the singles ladder swept through their matches in straight sets, while all three doubles teams won in straight sets, as the Cerritos College women's tennis team picked up their fifth straight win, defeating Mt. San Antonio College, 8-1 on Thursday. The South Coast Conference win by the Falcons improves their record to 5-2 on the season, while they are 2-0 in SCC action. The team will now head down to San Diego Mesa College for a weekend tournament.

    At the top of the singles ladder, the Falcons needed to go into tie-breakers to win, while the bottom of the ladder lost just eight games combined. Freshman Alana Johnson (Gahr HS), who played in the #4 position, posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory, while sophomores Shamariah DeRojas (La Mirada HS) and Cristina Sanchez (La Mirada HS) won their matches by scores of 6-1, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-3, respectively.
 
    Freshman Samantha Nadres (Troy HS) was extended to a third-set tie-breaker before she defeated Arielle Monteil, 6-1. 4-6 (10-5), while freshman Christina Nguyen (Gahr HS) persevered in a 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 victory. 02.24.09 - Falcons open conference with a win

Women's Tennis opened the South Coast Conference with a victory over El Camino College.The Cerritos College women's tennis team opened defense of their South Coast Conference title at home on Tuesday and posted an 8-1 win over El Camino College. The win was the fourth in a row for the Falcons, who are now 4-2 on the season and 1-0 in SCC play. The team will now host Mt. San Antonio College at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday in another conference match.

Aside from a three-set defeat in the #2 singles position, Cerritos was in complete control from the outset against the Warriors. At the bottom half of the ladder, freshman Alana Johnson (Gahr HS) posted a 6-1, 6-1 win in the #4 position, while sophomores Shamariah DeRojas (La Mirada HS) and Cristina Sanchez (La Mirada HS) each posted 6-0, 6-1 victories. As for #1-singles player, freshman Samantha Nadres (Troy HS) won her third straight match by posting a 6-1, 6-1 victory. 02.19.09 - Cerritos wins third in a row

San Jacinto College 7-2.After getting off to a slow 0-2 start, the Cerritos College women's tennis team won their third straight match 0n Thursday when they defeated Mt. San Jacinto College, 7-2 in a nonconference match. The Falcons (3-2) will now open South Coast Conference action on Tuesday when they host El Camino College at 2:00 p.m. Cerritos is the two-time defending conference champions.

The Falcons held off the Eagles in several close singles matches, with freshman Samantha Nadres (Troy HS) leading the way in the #1 position with a 6-2, 6-1 victory. Pulling out close wins were freshman Michelle Yi (Downey HS), who posted a 6-4, 7-5 win at #4, while freshman Alana Johnson (Gahr HS) preserved a 7-5, 6-2 win in #5. Posting a convincing win at #6 was sophomore Shamariah DeRojas (La Mirada HS), while freshman Christina Nguyen (Gahr HS) fought back in her #2 match, but eventually was defeated, 6-4, 1-6, 8-10...[more]

The Cerritos College women's tennis team fought past the cold weather and a shorthanded Victor Valley College team to register a 9-0 nonconference win on Tuesday afternoon. Women's Tennis lost their season-opener to Santa Monica College on Tuesday afternoon.The Cerritos College women's tennis team opened their season on a losing note, as they dropped a 7-2 non-conference home decision to Santa Monica College on Tuesday afternoon. The Falcons, defending South Coast Conference champions, will now travel to Orange Coast College next Tuesday for a 2:00 p.m. non-conference match.

Winning for the Falcons on the day were freshman Alana Johnson (Gahr HS) and sophomore Cristina Sanchez (La Mirada HS) in the #5 and #6 singles spots. Johnson posted a 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 win, while Sanchez fought for a 7-5, 6-4 victory. In the other four singles matches, the Cerritos players won just seven games, with freshman Christina Nguyen (Gahr HS) losing, 2-6, 2-6...[more]
