The Cerritos College
women’s tennis team recorded their first win of the
season, as they posted a 5-4 non-conference win over
Irvine Valley College on Tuesday afternoon at
Cerritos College. The Falcons will look to remain
undefeated when they travel to Saddleback College on
Thursday for a 2:00 p.m. match.
Opening the match with
doubles, the Falcons dropped two of the three to
fall behind early. Freshmen Sarai Koo and
Mary Jane Bernardo (Kennedy HS) won their
#2 doubles match, 8-5 and the team lost a close
match at #1 doubles, with freshman Steffanie
Mendez (Bellflower HS) and freshman
Jelanie DeGuzman (Downey HS) coming out
on the short end of a tight 8-6 match.
In singles action, Koo
(6-4, 6-3), Bernardo (6-2, 6-1) and sophomore
Asha Badal (Mayfair HS), who won, 6-2,
6-1, picked up wins in straight sets. The match was
clinched when Mendez posted her 7-5, 2-6, 6-1 win in
the #4 singles spot. |
