04.28.07 - Doubles team wins two of three matches at Ojai
The Cerritos College women's tennis team entered the prestigious Ojai Tournament boasting the South Coast Conference singles champion in freshman Sonia Gutierrez (Norwalk HS). Before she could make any kind of an impact, she was forced to retire due to an injury in her first round match. Leading, 6-2, 3-0 at the time, Gutierrez could not go on any more and was eliminated from the tournament. Gutierrez will have a chance to rest during the week before she and the rest of her teammates that qualified, will enter the Southern California Regional Playoffs, which will be held Thursday through Saturday at Victor Valley College...[more]
 

04.21.07 - Sonia Gutierrez wins conference singles championship
Cerritos College freshman tennis player Sonia Gutierrez (Norwalk HS) spent the majority of the season as the team's #2 singles player. She entered the South Coast Conference Tournament, which was held at Long Beach City College this past weekend, as the #6-seeded player. On her way to winning the singles championship, she defeated five players, including the #3 and #4 seeded players. In the championship match, Gutierrez registered a 6-2, 6-2 win over fourth-seeded Nicole Harden of Mt. San Antonio College. The top eight finishers in both singles and doubles will now advance to the Southern California Regionals, which will be held May 3-5 at Victor Valley College...[more]
 

04.12.07 - Cerritos finally gets chance to face Rio Hondo and wins
Due to some rescheduling, the Cerritos College women's tennis team had one more non-conference match before they compete in the South Coast Conference Tournament. After moving the date of the match three different times, the Falcons finally hosted Rio Hondo College on Thursday and squeezed out a 5-4 victory, which runs their season record to 10-5. Getting ready to compete in the South Coast Conference Tournament, the Cerritos College women's tennis team had one final tune-up on Thursday. The Cerritos College women's tennis team had to wait over three and a half hours to finally beat El Camino College, 4-3, on Wednesday afternoon and celebrate as South Coast Conference championship. Entering the match, both teams had two conference losses, and with the match tied, 3-3, it all came down to the #6 singles match. 03.20.07 - Win sets up showdown with El Camino
The Cerritos College women's tennis team not only avenged one of their South Coast Conference losses on Tuesday, they held on to a portion of first place. With their 5-2 win over Mt. San Antonio College, the Falcons (8-4 overall) are now 5-2 in conference action and currently hold a half game lead over Long Beach City College and El Camino College, who had their match shortened by rain yesterday. On the strength of their 4-3 South Coast Conference win at Long Beach City College on Thursday afternoon, the Cerritos College women's tennis won their third straight match. 03.13.07 - Cerritos wins for the second time over Marymount
The Cerritos College women's tennis team posted their second 7-0 South Coast Conference victory over Marymount College this season, as they won their match at home on Tuesday. The victory by the Falcons runs their season record to 6-4 overall, while they are now 3-2 in conference play. Cerritos will now travel to face Long Beach City on Thursday at 2:00 p.m., which will be the second time this week the two teams will face each other. 03.08.07 - Continued match results in win over Long Beach
When the Cerritos College and Long Beach City College women's tennis teams attempted to play their South Coast Conference match back on February 20, they were halted due to rain. The two teams finished their match on Thursday, with the Falcons coming away with a 5-2 win, which evens their conference record at 2-2, while they are now 5-4 on the season. 03.06.07 - Falcons drop close match to El Camino
With the match eventually coming down the the #3 singles result between the Cerritos College and El Camino College women's tennis teams on Tuesday, the Falcons looked to be in position to see the match extend to a third and deciding set. Sophomore Jelaine DeGuzman (Downey HS), who dropped the first set, 4-6 to Latifa Brown, led 5-3 in the second set. But, Brown went on to win the next four games, which resulted in a 4-3 South Coast Conference loss for Cerritos. With the setback, the Falcons dropped to 4-4 on the year and 1-2 in conference play. 03.01.07 - Team posts easy win over Victor Valley
In a non-conference match against Victor Valley College on Thursday afternoon, the Cerritos College women's tennis team registered a convincing 8-1 win to run their season record to 4-3. The Falcons will now resume South Coast Conference play on Tuesday with a 2:00 p.m. match at El Camino College...[more]

02.27.07 - Close loss to Mt. San Antonio evens record at 1-1
With just one match remaining in their South Coast Conference competition at home against Mt. San Antonio College on Tuesday, the Cerritos College women's tennis team looked to sophomore Jelaine DeGuzman (Downey HS) to secure the victory. After winning the first set, 6-3, DeGuzman was unable to hold off Louise Miclat, and dropped the next two sets, 4-6, 3-6. The end result was a 4-3 loss to the Mounties, which dropped the Falcons to 1-1 in the conference and 3-3 overall. 02.25.07 - Falcons experience some success at tournament
The Cerritos College women's tennis team had one singles player and one doubles team win consolation championships at the Southwestern Tournament, which was held this past weekend in Chula Vista. Competing in the #5 singles competition, sophomore Asha Badal (Mayfair HS) dropped her first match, which sent her to the consolation round, where she won two matches to capture the consolation championship. The consolation rounds were one set played to 10 and Badal posted 10-0 and 10-4 victories...[more]

02.20.07 - Conference season opens with win over Marymount
The start of the South Coast Conference may have resulted in a convincing 8-1 win at Marymount College on Tuesday afternoon. But it was also the continuation of a winning streak the Falcons hope to maintain as they get deeper into conference play. The Cerritos College women's tennis team made it two wins in two days, as they recorded a 7-2 non-conference victory over Glendale College on Friday afternoon. With the win, the Falcons improve to 2-2 on the season.
