Still looking for the
right combination for a win, the Cerritos
College women's tennis team dropped their second
match of the season, a 6-3 setback at Orange
Coast College on Tuesday. With the loss, the
Falcons are now 0-2 on the year and will look
for their first win at Glendale in their 2:00
p.m. match on Thursday.
As in their opening season loss to
Saddleback College, the Falcons picked up two of
their wins due to forfeits, as the Pirates only
had five players. Cerritos picked up a default
win for sophomore
Alyssa
Rojas (Warren HS) in the
#6 singles spot, while freshmen
Melody Elizarraz (John Glenn HS)
and
Jessica Zaldivar (Pioneer HS)
earned a default win in the #3 doubles position.
The only player to earn a win on the court
was freshman
Sonia Gutierrez (Norwalk HS),
who fought hard for a 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 win in the
#2 singles match. After a tough 7-5 loss in the
first set of her #5 singles match, sophomore
Asha
Badal (Mayfair HS) was
defeated, 6-1 in the second set.
Both doubles teams played well, but came up
short, with sophomore
Jelanie DeGuzman (Downey HS)
and freshman
Esther
Lee (Cerritos HS) dropping
an 8-5 decision, while Gutierrez and Badal were
defeated, 8-6.
