The Cerritos College
women's tennis team made it two wins in two
days, as they recorded a 7-2 non-conference
victory over Glendale College on Friday
afternoon. With the win, the Falcons improve
to 2-2 on the season. Next up for the team
is the start of South Coast Conference play,
as the Falcons travel to Marymount College
on Tuesday for a 2:00 p.m. contest.
After winning two of the
three doubles matches to start the contest,
Cerritos went on to win three quick singles
matches, which put them in position for the
victory. After sophomore
Alyssa Rojas (Warren HS)
sprinted out to a 5-0 lead in the first set
of her #5 singles match, her opponent, Nancy
Borgado, was forced to retire due to an
injury. In addition, freshman
Jessica Zaldivar (Pioneer
HS) posted a convincing 6-2, 6-3 win in
the #6 spot.
Several matches were
closer, with the Falcons coming out on top
of all three, with sophomore
Jelaine DeGuzman (Downey HS)
able to break the serve of Miyuki Yohozuha
en route to a 6-3, 6-4 win, while sophomore
Asha Badal (Mayfair HS)
fought hard for her 7-5, 6-4 victory. In the
only match that was extended to three sets,
freshman
Sonia Gutierrez (Norwalk HS)
prevailed, 6-0, 4-6, 6-2 in her #2 singles
match.
In doubles action, the
team of DeGuzman and freshman
Esther Lee (Cerritos HS)
breezed to an 8-1 win, while Gutierrez and
