The Cerritos College women's
tennis team posted their second 7-0 South
Coast Conference victory over Marymount
College this season, as they won their match
at home on Tuesday. The victory by the
Falcons runs their season record to 6-4
overall, while they are now 3-2 in
conference play. Cerritos will now travel to
face Long Beach City on Thursday at 2:00
p.m., which will be the second time this
week the two teams will face each other.
Earlier in the week, the teams completed a
rain-delayed match, with the Falcons
winning, 5-2.
With the
Mariners being shorthanded in players, the
Falcons picked up two singles wins by
default, while they also collected a doubles
win the same way. Making her first
appearance all season at the #1 singles
spot, freshman
Sonia Gutierrez (Norwalk HS)
won her match by a 6-2, 6-2 score, as
everyone in the ladder went up one position.
Sophomores
Jelaine DeGuzman (Downey HS)
won, 6-0, 6-1 in the #2 spot, while
Mary Jane Bernardo (Kennedy HS)
registered a 6-1, 6-0 victory. As for
Asha Badal (Mayfair HS), it
was a 6-2, 6-1 win, while freshmen
Alyssa Rojas (Warren HS) and
Jessica Zaldivar (Pioneer HS)
each collected forfeit wins.
Gutierrez and Badal were met with little resistance in their
#2 doubles match, as they won, 8-0, while
Zaldivar and Rojas earned a forfeit win. The
only setback was in the #1 doubles match, as
DeGuzman and freshman
Esther Lee (Cerritos HS) by
an 8-3 score.
