The Cerritos College women's tennis team continued their quest to finish the South Coast Conference season undefeated after their 7-0 home win over El Camino College on Tuesday afternoon. The Falcons (14-3 overall, 8-0 SCC) close out their regular season at home on Thursday at 3:00 p.m. against Long Beach City College.

 

    The day started with Cerritos winning all three doubles matches with ease and concluded it by winning three singles matches that were extended to three sets. The top doubles team of sophomores Annika You (John Marshall HS/Cal Poly Pomona) and Sonia Gutierrez (Norwalk HS) came away with an 8-2 win, while sophomore Steffanie Mendez (Bellflower HS) and freshman Cristina Sanchez (La Mirada HS) won, 8-1. The doubles closed out with freshmen Joanna Gonzalez (Lynwood HS) and Shamariah DeRojas (La Mirada HS) won, 8-0.

 

    In the singles matches that went three sets, Gonzalez defeated Nicole Gudeau in the #3 spot, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, wihle freshman Gabriela Diaz won, 1-6, 6-1, 6-1 in the #6 position. At #2, Gutierrez came away with a 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 tiebreaker victory, while You (6-0, 6-1), Mendez (6-3, 6-1) and freshman Tania Garcia (Huntington Park HS), who finished off Nerlyn Maloa, 6-4, 6-4, all won.
