With both doubles teams and a singles player already eliminated from the Ojai Tournament, the lone Cerritos College women’s tennis player remaining is sophomore Annika You (John Marshall HS/Cal Poly Pomona). After a first round bye, You upended Rosyli Reveron of Victor Valley College, 6-1, 6-0 and is now scheduled to play on Friday. She will face Amber Masden of Chabot College on Friday at 8:00 a.m. and with a win, You will play again at 11:00 a.m.
The team’s other singles player, sophomore Steffanie Mendez (Bellflower HS), was defeated, 4-6, 1-6 in her first match by De Anza College’s Michelle Decaro. In doubles play, You and freshman Joanna Gonzalez (Lynwood HS) opened with a default win and were then eliminated by Judith Casillas and Janette Molina of Southwestern College, 3-6, 6-7. It was the first time all season that the two had paired up in a doubles match.
As for Mendez and freshman Christina Sanchez (La Mirada HS), they opened with a convincing 6-3, 6-0 win over Courtney Drew and Heather Poochigian of Fresno City College and were then defeated by Erin Hung and Andrea Warren of Saddleback College, 0-6, 0-6.
