The Cerritos
College women’s tennis team
won their second straight
South Coast Conference match
on Thursday, as they
registered a 7-0 win at home
against El Camino College.
The Falcons (6-2 overall,
2-0 SCC), will now host Long
Beach City College next
Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in
another SCC match.
With the
South Coast Conference
seven-point team scoring
system, the team’s loss at
the #2 doubles position
didn’t hurt them, as they
won the other doubles
matches to pick up the team
point. Sophomores
Annika You (John
Marshall HS/Cal Poly Pomona)
and
Sonia Gutierrez (Norwalk
HS) continued to
dominate as a team, as the
posted an 8-2 win, while
sophomore Steffanie
Mendez (Bellflower HS)
and freshman
Cristina Sanchez (La
Mirada HS) secured the
team point with their 8-1
victory.
The
Falcons swept the singles
play, as they only lost one
set on the day. It was
business as usual for You
(6-4, 6-2) and Gutierrez
(6-1 6-2), while freshman
Joanna Gonzalez (Lynwood
HS) won, 6-0, 6-3 in the
#4 position. Sanchez was
pushed at #5, winning, 6-3.
7-5, while freshman
Tania Garcia (Huntington
Park HS) posted a 6-3,
6-4 win. Only Mendez was
pushed to a third set in the
#4 spot, and she came away
with a 6-1, 6-0, 6-4
victory.
