The Cerritos College women’s tennis team shut out Mt. San Antonio College for the second time this season, as they posted a 7-0 South Coast Conference road victory on Thursday afternoon. The win keeps the Falcons in first place in the SCC at 4-0 and runs their season record to 8-2 overall. The team will now host El Camino College at 2:00 p.m. next Tuesday.

    Just as in their first meeting, Cerritos swept through all six singles matches and lost only one game in doubles play. In fact, as a team, no singles player lost more than two games in their sets. Top singles player Annika You (John Marshall HS/Cal Poly Pomona) had little trouble with Jessica Seugami, winning, 6-1, 6-1, while sophomore Sonia Gutierrez (Norwalk HS) shut out her opponent, 6-0, 6-0. The Falcons continued to get strong play from the entire squad, as sophomore Steffanie Mendez (Bellflower HS) won. 6-2, 6-1, while freshman Joanna Gonzalez (Lynwood HS) posted a 6-2, 6-0 win in the #3 and #4 positions, respectively. The singles play was rounded out by freshmen Tania Garcia (Huntington Park HS) and Shamariah DeRojas (La Mirada HS) each combining to lose just three games.

    Doubles action went quickly, with You and Gutierrez, along with Mendez and freshman Cristina Sanchez (La Mirada HS) each posting shutouts, 8-0, while Gonzalez and DeRojas registered an 8-1 win.
