On the heels of
their third straight South Coast Conference
championship, and fifth in the last six years, the
Cerritos College women's tennis team has been seeded
#7 in the Southern California Regional Playoffs. As
a result, the Falcons (12-3) will travel to face
#2-seeded Cuesta College at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. It
will mark the first meeting of the season between
the two teams, but it was the Cougars who eliminated
the Falcons last year in the first round of the
playoffs.
In other women's
tennis news, the seeding for the South Coast
Conference Tournament have been announced and the
Falcons will be represented as the top seeds in both
singles and doubles. The tournament will take place
this Thursday through Saturday at Mt. San Antonio
College.
Freshman
Samantha
Nadres (Troy HS), who has
posted an 8-2 record this season, was seeded #1 in
singles play, while freshman
Michelle Yi
(Warren HS) is the third seed. The top
eight seeds earn first round byes, which means
#7-seeded
Christina
Nguyen (Gahr HS) also receives
a bye. For other Cerritos players will compete in
first round matches.
In doubles action,
Nadres and Yi, who are 10-0 on the season, were
seeded #1. The top three seeds receive first round
byes, so sophomores
Shamariah
DeRojas (La Mirada HS) and
Cristina Sanchez (La Mirada HS),
who are seeded #4 and are also 10-0 on the year,
will compete in the first round. Two other doubles
teams will compete in first round matches.
