After the first
day of the 109th Annual Ojai Valley Tennis
Tournament, both Cerritos College women's tennis
singles players and both doubles teams are still
playing. All players will continue on the second day
of the four day tournament, with singles action
getting underway at 8:00 a.m. and doubles play
starting at 1:00 p.m.
In singles,
freshman
Samantha
Nadres (Troy HS) received a
bye in the first round and then posted a 6-2, 6-1
win over Luz Jimenez of Fullerton College in her
only match of the day. She will now advance to the
third round and face Tammy Taylor of Reedley
College. As for freshman
Alana
Johnson (Gahr HS), she also
earned a first round bye and then opened with a 6-3,
6-4 victory over Mt. San Jacinto College's Yesenia
Lozano. On Friday morning, Johnson will face Alix
Thomas of Santa Monica College in the third round.
Nadres also played
doubles with freshman
Michelle Yi
(Warren HS) and received a first round bye
before eliminating Kristine Leh and Sofia Lopez of
San Diego Mesa College, 6-1, 6-0. The duo, who are
now 12-0 on the year, will square off against Erika
Kagawa and Michelle Neville of Saddleback College at
1:00 p.m. on Friday. Also advancing to the Round of
32 are sophomores
Shamariah
DeRojas (La Mirada HS) and
Cristina Sanchez (La Mirada HS).
The two had a first round bye and then improved
their record together to 13-0 with a 6-3, 6-1 win
over Theresa Dinh and Marcella Morgan of Los Angeles
Mission College. They will now face Shoko Hackiya
and Arian Polonikova of Palomar College.
