The final Cerritos
College women's tennis player competing in the 109th
Annual Ojai Valley Tournament was eliminated on
Saturday afternoon. Freshman
Samantha
Nadres (Troy HS), who opened
the day with a 6-0, 2-6, 6-1 win over Brittanie
Miller in the quarterfinals, was defeated by Ashley
Litchfield of Fullerton College, 0-6, 1-6 in the
semi-finals.
The Falcons will
now focus on the Southern California Regional
Playoffs, which will take place at Cypress College
and start on Thursday. Those that will be competing
for Cerritos are Nadres, along with freshmen
Michelle Yi
(Warren HS) and
Alana
Johnson (Gahr HS) in singles
play. Nadres and Yi will compete as a doubles team,
as will the team's other three doubles teams, which
include sophomores
Shamariah
DeRojas (La Mirada HS) and
Cristina Sanchez (La Mirada HS);
sophomore
Gabriela
Diaz and
Christina
Nguyen (Gahr HS); and Johnson,
who will pair with freshman
Isamar Vega
(Pioneer HS).
