Nadres (Troy HS) opened the
Southern California Regional Playoffs at Orange
Coast College on Thursday as the #4 seeded singles
player. She received a bye in the first round, then
shut out Nicole Toches of Grossmont College, 6-0,
6-0. Nadres, the lone Falcon singles player
remaining, will now face Katie O'Leary of
Bakersfield College in the Round of 16 on Friday.
In doubles action,
Nadres and freshman
Michelle Yi
(Warren HS), seeded #5 for the tournament,
had a bye in the first round and then posted a 6-1,
6-3 win over their opponents from Antelope Valley
College. They will now face Madeline Hovarter and
Tiffani Shaik of Fullerton College.
The team's other
remaining doubles team, sophomores
Shamariah
DeRojas (La Mirada HS) and
Cristina Sanchez (La Mirada HS)
must face top-seeded Arina Polovnikova and Shoko
Hackiya of Palomar College. The duo opened with a
2-6, 6-1, 6-2 win over Michelle Escamilla and
Melissa Valdez of Mt. San Jacinto.
Losing in the
opening round of singles was Yi, who was forced to
retire in the third set, while DeRojas and sophomore
Gabriela Diaz also lost in the second
round after receiving a bye. In doubles play,
freshmen
Alana
Johnson (Gahr HS) and
Isamar Vega
(Pioneer HS), along with Diaz and freshman
Christina Nguyen (Gahr HS)
were defeated in the first round.
