The Cerritos
College women's tennis team recorded their first win
of the season on Friday, as they defeated Irvine
Valley College, 7-2 in a nonconference match. The
Falcons (1-2) will now travel to Victor Valley
College for a 2:00 p.m. nonconference contest on
Tuesday.
One of the keys to
defeating the Lasers was the team's ability to win
both matches that went to three sets, while freshman
Alana Johnson (Gahr HS) bested
Nedra Jenkins in a tough #4 match, 7-6 (4), 7-5.
Others who won three-set matches were sophomore
Gabriela Diaz in the #3 position, 6-0,
5-7, 6-4 and sophomore
Cristina
Sanchez (La Mirada HS), who
came away with a 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 win in the #5
position.
The Falcons put
the match away by winning all three doubles matches,
led by the duo of freshmen
Samantha
Nadres (Troy HS) and
Michelle Yi
(Warren HS), who won, 8-4 in the #1 spot.
Both Diaz and freshman
Christina
Nguyen (Gahr HS), as well as
Sanchez and sophomore
Shamariah
DeRojas (La Mirada HS) posted
8-2 wins in their matches.
