The Cerritos
College women's tennis team fought past the cold
weather and a shorthanded Victor Valley College team
to register a 9-0 nonconference win on Tuesday
afternoon. With the win, the Falcons are now 2-2 on
the season. They will now face Mt. San Jacinto
College on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. match that is slated
to take place at the Lakewood Country Club.
In the win over
the Rams, Cerritos lost just six games, with #1
singles player
Samantha
Nadres (Troy HS) collecting
her first win, with a 6-0, 6-1 decision. Also
posting singles wins for the Falcons were freshman
Michelle Yi (Warren HS), 6-1,
6-1 in the #2 spot, while sophomore
Gabriela
Diaz won her match, 6-0, 6-3. In the #4
position, freshman
Christina
Nguyen (Gahr HS) posted a 6-0,
6-0 shutout, with sophomores
Shamariah
DeRojas (La Mirada HS) and
Cristina Sanchez (La Mirada HS)
each receiving forfeit wins.
In doubles action,
DeRojas and Sanchez earned the day off with another
forfeit, while the teams of Nadres and Yi, along
with Nguyen and Diaz each recorded 8-0 wins.
