Cerritos Women's Tennis team won their
third match in a row defeating Mt. San
Jacinto College 7-2. |

After getting off
to a slow 0-2 start, the Cerritos College women's
tennis team won their third straight match 0n
Thursday when they defeated Mt. San Jacinto College,
7-2 in a nonconference match. The Falcons (3-2) will
now open South Coast Conference action on Tuesday
when they host El Camino College at 2:00 p.m.
Cerritos is the two-time defending conference
champions.
The Falcons held
off the Eagles in several close singles matches,
with freshman
Samantha
Nadres (Troy HS) leading the
way in the #1 position with a 6-2, 6-1 victory.
Pulling out close wins were freshman
Michelle Yi
(Warren HS), who posted a 6-4, 7-5 win at
#4, while freshman
Alana
Johnson (Gahr HS) preserved a
7-5, 6-2 win in #5. Posting a convincing win at #6
was sophomore
Shamariah
DeRojas (La Mirada HS), while
freshman
Christina
Nguyen (Gahr HS) fought back
in her #2 match, but eventually was defeated, 6-4,
1-6, 8-10.
In doubles play,
Cerritos put the match away in the #3 position, as
DeRojas and sophomore
Cristina
Sanchez (La Mirada HS) won,
6-0, 6-3, while Nadres and Yi turned in a 6-3, 6-2
win. In a close match at #2, Nguyen and sophomore
Gabriela Diaz missed several chances to
win in straight sets, as well in the third set
tiebreaker, but were defeated, 6-3, 6-7, 8-10.
