Just 24 hours
after dispatching Mt. San Antonio College, the
Cerritos College women's tennis team headed south
and posted a 7-2 non-conference win at San Diego
Mesa College on Friday afternoon. The win was the
sixth in a row for the Falcons, who are now 6-2 on
the season. They return to SCC action on Tuesday
when they travel to Mt. San Antonio for the start of
the second of three rounds in conference action.
Cerritos won four
of the six singles matches against the Olympians and
closed out the match when they received a forfeit in
the #3 doubles match. The team also received a
forfeit at the #6 singles position. Winning in the
top two singles positions were freshman
Samantha
Nadres (Troy HS), who posted a
6-4, 7-6 (5) win, while sophomore
Gabriela
Diaz was also extended to a third set
before coming away with a 7-6, 2-6, 7-5 victory.
Sophomore
Cristina
Sanchez (La Mirada HS) was
also taken to a third set in the #4 spot, but
prevailed, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.
It was a different
story in doubles play, as Nadres and freshman
Michelle Yi (Warren HS) shut
out their opponent, 8-0 to run their season record
to 6-0. Sophomore
Shamariah
DeRojas (La Mirada HS) and
Sanchez are also 6-0 on the year after they came
back to post a 9-7 win in the #2 position.
