The Cerritos College women's tennis team won four straight-set singles matches and followed that with three straight-set doubles victories to lead the team to an 8-1 home victory over El Camino College on Thursday afternoon. With the win, the Falcons are now 8-3 overall and 4-1 in South Coast Conference action. The team will now travel to Long Beach City College for a 2:00 p.m. SCC match on Thursday.

 

    Leading the way on the win was freshman Samantha Nadres (Troy HS), who returned from an injury to post a 6-3, 6-2 win in the top spot on the ladder. Freshman Michelle Yi (Warren HS), who was extended to three sets, pulled out a 6-3, 3-6, 10-7 victory, while the bottom three all won in straight sets. Freshman Christina Nguyen (Gahr HS) posted a 6-1, 6-3 win, while freshman Alana Johnson (Gahr HS) and sophomore Shamariah DeRojas (La Mirada HS) each won by scores of 6-1, 6-0.

 

    In doubles action, Nadres and Yi posted a 6-3, 6-2 win in the top spot, while DeRojas and sophomore Cristina Sanchez (La Mirada HS) teamed up for a 6-0, 6-4 victory. The match was concluded when freshmen Sonya Jifkins (Norwalk HS) and Isamar Vega (Pioneer HS) recorded a 6-2, 6-0 victory.
