For the second time in 12 days, the Cerritos College
women’s tennis team posted a South Coast Conference
shutout win over Long Beach City College. The Falcons
defeated the host Vikings, 9-0 to improve their season
record to 9-3, while they are 5-1 in conference play.
The team will now take a break from conference action
and host four-year school Lewis & Clark (ID) University
at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
Cerritos posted 6-0, 6-0 wins in doubles play at the bottom
of the ladder, as sophomores
Shamariah
DeRojas (La Mirada HS) and
Cristina
Sanchez (La Mirada HS) also teamed up to
win their doubles match. The duo improved their doubles
record to 8-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 win in the #2 position.
At the top of the ladder, freshmen
Samantha
Nadres (Troy HS) and
Michelle Yi
(Warren HS) combined to lose only two games each
in their matches. Nadres won, 6-0, 6-2, while Yi posted
a 6-1, 6-1 victory. The two also combined for a 6-0, 7-5
win in the top doubles match.
Freshman
Christina Nguyen (Gahr HS) won her #3
singles match, 6-0, 6-1, while sophomore
Gabriela Diaz
posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory. In their doubles match, the
two won, 6-1, 6-0 for their sixth win together this
year.
