The Cerritos College
women's tennis team clinched their third straight South
Coast Conference championship and fifth in the last six
years after a 9-0 win at Long Beach City College on
Thursday. The Falcons, 12-3 overall, finished the
conference season with an 8-1 record and will be seeded
in the Southern California Playoffs, which will be
announced at a later date. The team will close out their
regular season with a non-conference make-up match at
home next Thursday at 1:00 p.m. against Rio Hondo
College.
Continuing with lineup adjustments, the Falcons saw freshman
Christina Nguyen (Gahr HS) lead
the team in singles by posting a 6-0 6-0 shutout, which
was matched by both sophomores
Shamariah
DeRojas (La Mirada HS) and
Cristina
Sanchez (La Mirada HS) in the
third and fourth positions, respectively. Freshman
Alana
Johnson (Gahr HS) and freshman
Isamar
Vega (Pioneer HS) each won, 6-0,
6-1, while the Vikings forfeited at #6.
Two more straight-set shutouts concluded the match in doubles
action, with freshmen
Samantha
Nadres (Troy HS) and
Michelle Yi
(Warren HS) winning in the top spot. DeRojas
and Sanchez also won, as both doubles teams improved to
10-0 in the season.
