Falcons
After both doubles teams and the one singles player that
advance to the Southern California Regional Tournament
were eliminated, the Cerritos College women's tennis
season officially came to an end. All of the entries
were defeated on the first day of the tournament, which
was held at Grossmont College. The top eight finishers
advance to the state tournament, which will be held at

04.28.11 - Cerritos players eliminated
from Ojai
The Cerritos
College women's team had two entries in singles and
doubles play at the Ojai Tournament on Thursday and all
were eliminated on the first day. The tournament is
slated to run through Sunday. Losing in singles play
were freshmen

04.07.11 - One singles and one doubles
advance
On the strength of advancing to the quarterfinals of the
South Coast Conference Tournament, the Cerritos College
women's tennis team will be sending one singles player
and one doubles team to the Southern California Regional
Tournament, which will take place at Grossmont College
in early May. Next up for the team will be the
prestigious Ojai Tournament, which will start on April
28.
Advancing to the quarterfinals was freshman
Kim Diaz (Norwalk HS), who entered the tournament as the #9-seeded player. After a straight set win the first day, Diaz upended #8-seeded Jill Dineros of El Camino College, 2-6, 6-4, 10-6 in a mild upset. Diaz, who never played higher than the #3 position on the singles ladder for the Falcons this season, worked back from an early deficit to defeat Dineros...[more]
04.05.11 - First day goes well for
Falcons
The Cerritos College women's tennis team struggled at
times when facing South Coast Conference opponents this
season. But on Tuesday in the first day of the
conference tournament, the Falcons won four of their six
singles matches, while one of their three doubles teams
advanced. The tournament will conclude at Cerritos
College at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, with the tournament
playing only until the quarterfinals. Those who reach
the quarters advance to the Southern California Regional
Tournament.
The highest seeded singles player for the Falcons was
#9-seeded freshman
Kim Diaz (Norwalk HS), who defeated Ashley Tapaley of Long Beach City College, 6-4, 6-4. She will now face #8 seeded Jill Dineros of El Camino College. tournament
Despite a 4-11 overall record and 3-6 mark in the South
Coast Conference, members of the Cerritos College
women's tennis team will have an opportunity to advance
to the Southern California Regional Singles and Doubles
Tournament this week. The Falcons, who are hosting the
conference tournament on Tuesday and Thursday (start
time is 2:00 p.m.), need to only advance to the
quarterfinals in either to qualify event for the
regional tournament. The conference coaches decided to
only play until the quarterfinals, which means three
wins in singles play and two in doubles action are

with loss
The Cerritos College women's tennis team concluded their
regular season on Tuesday with a 7-2 loss to host El
Camino College (9-5, 6-3). The resulting loss puts the
Falcons record at 4-11 on the year and 3-6 in conference

Coast Conference Tournament, which the Falcons will host

Long Beach City
For the third time this season, the Cerritos College
women's tennis team has posted a win over Long Beach
City College. The Falcons, who have just one match
remaining before entering the South Coast Conference
Tournament, posted an 8-1 win to improve to 4-10 overall
and 3-5 in the conference. They close out their regular
season next Tuesday when they travel to El Camino

03.22.11 - Cerritos no match for Mt.
San Antonio
The Cerritos College women's tennis team has had one of
their most difficult season in recent memory and Tuesday's
home match against Mt. San Antonio College was the
perfect indicator. The Falcons, who are now 3-10 on the
year and 2-5 in conference play, were swept by the
Mounties, 9-0 and have two road matches remaining before
hosting the conference tournament, Cerritos will travel
to Long Beach City College, a team they have defeated
twice, for a 2:00 p.m. match on Thursday.
The Falcons started slowly against Mt. San Antonio and
fell quickly. Only freshman Hui You Sohn (Cerritos HS) was in position of winning a set, as she dropped a 4-6, 3-6 decision to Kassondra Heacock in the #4 position. Freshman

in a row
Facing their second non-conference opponent in as many
days, the Cerritos College women's tennis team was
defeated by visiting Palomar College, 6-3, despite
playing shorthanded. The Falcons, who have three matches
remaining this season, will start their third round of
South Coast Conference play on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. when

03.17.11 - Cerritos defeated by Pima,
AZ
Facing a team that was playing their third match in as
many days, it appeared as though the Cerritos College
women's tennis team would have a bit of an advantage
over visiting Pima (AZ) Community College on Thursday.
However, the Falcons were unable to climb out of an
early hole and suffered a 7-2 non-conference loss.
Cerritos, now 3-8 on the year, will host Palomar College
at 2:00 p.m. in another non-conference match.
The Aztecs (7-2), who defeated Glendale College and Long Beach City College on consecutive days, won four of the six singles matches to take a commanding lead heading into doubles. The Falcons were only competitive in one of the three doubles matches before dropping all three.
Earning wins in singles play were freshman Hui You Sohn (Cerritos HS), who posted a 6-4, 6-1 win over Lydia Carlson in the #3 position, while freshman Diana Casiano (Mayfair HS) recorded a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Amy Hoebien in the #6 spot. For the Cerritos College women's tennis team, one of the
things that has been missing this year is consistency.
Looking to win their second match in a row for the first
time this season, the Falcons fell short, as they were
defeated by El Camino College, 9-0 in a South Coast
Conference match on Tuesday. The loss dropped Cerritos
to 3-7 on the season and 2-4 in conference play. The
team will now host Pima (AZ) Community College in a
non-conference match at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday...[more]
03.10.11 - Falcons pick up third win
of the season
On the year, the Cerritos College women's team has
struggled at times, but they have shown the ability to
beat one team consistently. On Thursday, the Falcons
picked up their second win of the season over Long Beach
City College after posting a 7-2 South Coast Conference
victory. Cerritos (3-6, 2-3) will play their second of
four straight home matches on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. when
they host El Camino College in a conference match.
Even though the Falcons dropped matches in the top two
spots of the singles ladder, they recovered to win the
remainder of the matches, which included forfeit wins in
the #6 singles and #3 doubles positions. It took a
couple of extended matches for Cerritos to secure the

The Cerritos College women's tennis team started the
second round of South Coast Conference play the same way
they started the first. The Falcons were swept by Mt.
San Antonio, 9-0, which drops their season record to
2-6, while they are now 1-3 in conference play. The team

defeat
After the first six singles matches in their South Coast
Conference competition against El Camino College on
Tuesday afternoon, the Cerritos College women's tennis
team was locked in a 3-3 tie. However, the team was
unable to win any of the three doubles matches and

The Cerritos College women's tennis team evened their
South Coast Conference record with a convincing 7-2 win
over host Long Beach City College on Thursday. The
Falcons, who are now 2-4 overall, improved to 1-1 in

02.22.11 - Cerritos defeated by Mt.
San Antonio
In
their South Coast Conference opener, the Cerritos
College women's tennis team didn't fare very well, as
they were defeated by visiting Mt. San Antonio College,
9-0. The loss drops the Falcons to 1-4 on the year and
0-1 in conference action. They will now travel to Long
Beach City College for a 2:00 p.m. conference match on
Thursday.
There wasn't much resistance provided by Cerritos, as
they won only seven games over the course of the six
singles matches and were only competitive in one of the
three doubles matches. In the #2 doubles match, the duo

Center HS) came up short in a 7-6 score in the first

02.17.11 - Team posts big win, 8-1
Facing a short-handed Mt. San Jacinto College team on
Thursday, the Cerritos College women's tennis team took
full advantage to post their first win of the season, an
8-1 non-conference score. The Falcons (1-3) won five of
the six matches that were played, while they received a
pair of forfeits in singles and one in doubles. The team
will now open South Coast Conference play on Tuesday at
2:00 p.m. when they host Mt. San Antonio College.
Picking up their first wins of the season in singles play were Hui You Sohn ( Cerritos HS),
Rachel Aguilar ( Downey HS) and Kim Diaz ( Norwalk HS). All three won their singles matches in straight sets, with Aguilar and Diaz losing just one game in posting their victories.
The match started with the team playing doubles, and the Falcons won both of the matches that were played. At the top of the ladder, Sohn and freshman

first win
A very young Cerritos College women's tennis team has started the young season 0-3 and still looking to win their first set of the season. The Falcons dropped a 9-0 non-conference decision to San Diego Mesa College on Thursday. They will host Mt. San Jacinto College at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday in hopes of picking up their first win.
As it was in their two previous matches, Cerritos was swept in all of the matches, although freshman Rachel Aguilar (Downey HS) did give Naime Bairami some trouble in the #5 singles match. Aguilar was defeated 6-2, 6-3, but had several nice shots that had the second set close at one point. No other singles player won more than one game in either of their sets...[more]

Valley
On Tuesday, the Cerritos College women's tennis team
dropped their second match of the season, as they were
defeated, 9-0 by host Irvine Valley College in a

The Cerritos College women's tennis team this season
will consist of all freshmen and in their first match of
the season, they saw just how much improvement they will
