Cerritos College receives grant for new Track and Field
facility
With the renovation of their new
football field complete prior to the start of the
season, Cerritos College is now in the process of
replacing their track and field, as well as their throws
area. Part of that process includes the widening of the
actual track surface, as well as the installation of new
areas for the javelin, shot put, discus and hammer
throws. As they did back when the surface was replaced
in the early 1990s, the college received a $50,000 grant
from the Amateur Athletic Foundation (AAF), a private
non-profit institution that was endowed with surplus
funds from the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games. The AAF
provides grants to organizations providing youth sports
opportunities, giving special attention to groups and
communities underserved by traditional sports programs,
including girls, ethnic minorities, and the physically
challenged and developmentally disabled. AAF funds are
primarily intended for the development of youth sports
below the elite level. Grants are awarded within the

Named To Coach National Track Team
On the heels of helping lead the Cerritos
College women's track and field team to their second
state championship in school history, Falcon Director of
Track and Field
Doug Wells
has been chosen to serve as the Head Manager for the
U.S. National Track and Field Team. Wells was selected
by a special staff selection meeting of the
International Competition Committee at the USA Track and
Field National Convention. He will guide them at the NACAC
Under-23 Team, which will be held in Santo Domingo,
Dominican Republic on July 7-9...[more]

05.21.06 - Falcons Win Second
State Championship In School History
Last season, the Cerritos College women’s
track and field team came within four points of winning
their second state championship in school history, with
their first coming in 1981. From the final day of last
year’s championship, the team was already thinking about
the next year. For the Falcons, that next year came over
the weekend at Bakersfield College, as they captured
their second state championship by accumulating 89 team
points at the California Community Colleges Commission
on Athletics Women's Track and Field Championship
presented by U.S. Bank, which beat out second place Moorpark College,

Southern Cal Championship
For the second year in a row, the
Cerritos College women's track and field team captured
the Southern California Championship, as they
accumulated 117 team points and beat out second place
Moorpark College, who finished with 100 team points. The
team will now embark on the state championships, which
will take place at Bakersfield College this Friday and

Events And Has 25 Qualifiers To Finals
The Cerritos College women's track and
field team dominated the field events at the Southern
California Preliminaries on Saturday at Mt. San Antonio
College, and as a result, have 15 entries into the
Southern California Championships. The championships
will also be held at Mt. San Antonio and will be on
Friday. The competitors will have to finish in the top
four places in all lane races, with the fastest fifth
place time between the north and south also qualifying
to advance to the state championships. In the field

Conference Championship
For the second consecutive year, the
Cerritos College women's track and field team won the
South Coast Conference championship and will now look to
defend their Southern California Championship. The
preliminaries will take place this Saturday at Mt. San
Antonio College starting at 10:00 a.m. with the finals
being held at Mt. SAC the following Friday. Last season,
Cerritos also placed second in the state championships
and missed winning their second title in school history
by four points. The Falcons literally ran away with the
meet, as they compiled 258 team points, with Mt. San
Antonio College in a distant second place with 196 team

After the
South Coast Conference Preliminaries completed their
first day, the Cerritos College women’s track and field
team currently in second place with 52 team points, just
one point behind leader Mt. San Antonio College with 53

Place Second In Six At Mt. SAC Relays
As they prepare for their run towards the
state championships, the Cerritos College women’s track
and field team tuned up with a strong showing at the
prestigious Mt. San Antonio Relays. The Falcons will
take their first step towards improving on their second
place showing in the state championship last season this
Friday when they compete in the South Coast Conference

field team was a first place finisher, while the team

At University Invitational
The Cerritos College women’s track and
field competed in the University of LaVerne Invitational
over the weekend and went up against a group of
four-year universities, along with several community
colleges. The Falcons fared extremely well, as they had
athletes place as high as second place in four different
events. The team will now travel north to take part in
the Stanford Invitational on Saturday and go up against

Record With Top Three Finishers
Three members of the Cerritos College
women’s track and field team accomplished something that
has never been done in the history of the state in the
heptathlon on Tuesday and Wednesday at Moorpark College
in the Southern California Heptathlon Championships. The
Falcons, led by a trio of sophomores, took the top three
spots, with two of the entrants breaking the old school

03.20.06 - Falcons Pull Away From Mt.
SAC At Conference Four-Way Meet
The Cerritos College women’s track and
field team knew they would find out just how good they
were when they went up against Mt. San Antonio College
in their South Coast Conference four-way meet in
Thursday. Well, the Falcons show everybody involved how
good they are, as they defeated all three other teams by
accumulating 317 team points, followed by the Mounties
(167 team points), East Los Angeles College (17) and Los
Angeles City College (8). With the sweep, Cerritos
finished the conference season with a 7-0 record. They
attempted to return to Bakersfield over the weekend to
try and compete in their invitational, but weather
permitted them from attending. Next up for Cerritos is
the Southern California Multi event Championships on

Cerritos Invitational
The Cerritos College track and field
program hosted their annual invitational in which
upwards of 25 colleges competed in 15 running and eight
field events. The Falcons excelled in their specialty,
relay races, as they won three of them and came in
second place in another. The 800-meter relay team won in
a time of 1:42.66, while a second team came in fourth
place at 1:49.47. As for the 1600-meter relay team,
their first place time of 3:58.64 earned them an
automatic bid into the Southern California
Preliminaries, while the 800-meter sprint relay team
finished first overall in 1:50.05, with the 400-meter
relay quartet coming in a close second place at

Four Teams In Conference Meet
The Cerritos College women’s track and
field team dominated the other four teams they competed
with in the South Coast Conference five-way meet held at
Long Beach City College on Friday afternoon. The Falcons
