04.20.06 - FALCONS WIN FIVE EVENTS AND PLACE SECOND IN SIX AT MT. SAC RELAYS

            As they prepare for their run towards the state championships, the Cerritos College women’s track and field team tuned up with a strong showing at the prestigious Mt. San Antonio Relays. The Falcons will take their first step towards improving on their second place showing in the state championship last season this Friday when they compete in the South Coast Conference preliminaries. While at the Mt. SAC Relays, the Falcons won five events and placed second in six other events.

            Freshman Yasmin Webb (Buena Park HS) won the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:04.80 and placed a close second in the 100-meter hurdles with a clocking of 14.88 to lead the team. Freshman sprinter Sherrelle Dilworth (Vallejo HS) picked up the title in the 400 meters with a blazing time of 56.65, while distance runner Meryl Follosco (Kennedy HS) was victorious in the 1500 meters (4:45.64) and came in third place in the 5000 meters (18:19.86).

            Sophomore Jacqueline Taylor (Long Beach Poly HS) won the javelin (119’ 1 ½”) and placed seventh in the long jump (17’ ¾”), while freshman teammate NaShawnda Grant (Santa Fe HS) placed in the top 10 in three events, including a third place finish in the hammer behind freshman teammate Benetta Peggot, who came in second place in the hammer. Sophomore Allison Sarell (Gahr HS) came in second place in the long jump (18’ 3 ½”) and third in the triple jump (37’ 2 ¾”), while sophomore Jennifer Espinoza (Santa Fe HS) was a second place finisher in the pole vault.
