03.20.06 - FALCONS PULL AWAY FROM MT. SAC AT CONFERENCE FOUR-WAY MEET

The Cerritos College women’s track and field team knew they would find out just how good they were when they went up against Mt. San Antonio College in their South Coast Conference four-way meet in Thursday. Well, the Falcons show everybody involved how good they are, as they defeated all three other teams by accumulating 317 team points, followed by the Mounties (167 team points), East Los Angeles College (17) and Los Angeles City College (8). With the sweep, Cerritos finished the conference season with a 7-0 record. They attempted to return to Bakersfield over the weekend to try and compete in their invitational, but weather permitted them from attending. Next up for Cerritos is the Southern California Multi event Championships on Tuesday and Wednesday at Moorpark College.

The Falcons won eight of the 10 running races and came in second place in the other two, with freshman Sherrelle Dilworth (Vallejo HS) winning both the 100 and 200 meter races while freshman Yasmin Webb (Buena Park HS) finished in first place in both hurdle races. As for sophomore Meryl Follosco (Kennedy HS), she won the 1500 meters and came in second place in the 3000 meters, while freshman Amanda Rosencrantz (Kennedy HS) placed first in the 400 meters after finished third in the 200 meters.

They continued their dominance in the field events, as they scored big points in each of the events, while winning six of them. Sophomore Jacqueline Taylor (Long Beach Poly HS) won the javelin and tied for first in the high jump, while she also placed second in the 100-meter hurdles and is the team’s best heptathlete in school history. Sophomore Tatyanna Ricks (Lakewood HS) placed second in the long jump and finished third in the javelin and in the 100-meter hurdles. Freshman NaShawnda Grant (Santa Fe HS) took a first, second and third place in throwing events, while Benetta Peggot finished in the top four in three events.
