The Cerritos College women's track
and field team dominated the field events at the
Southern California Preliminaries on Saturday at Mt. San
Antonio College, and as a result, have 15 entries into
the Southern California Championships. The championships
will also be held at Mt. San Antonio and will be on
Friday. The competitors will have to finish in the top
four places in all lane races, with the fastest fifth
place time between the north and south also qualifying
to advance to the state championships. In the field
events and distance races, the top six advance to the
state championships.
The Falcons won four events, while
they placed second in five other events. In the triple
jump, Cerritos will be represented by five entries,
while four advanced in the long jump. Leading the way in
the field events was sophomore
Jacqueline
Taylor (Long Beach Poly HS), who won the
javelin, came in second place in the triple jump, while
also qualifying in the high jump, long jump and the
110-meter low hurdles.
In the running events, freshman
Sherrelle
Dilworth (Vallejo HS) came in second
place in both the 100 meters and 200 meters, while
freshman Yasmin Webb (Buena Park HS) won
the 400-meter intermediate hurdles. Sophomore
Allison Sarell
(Gahr HS) won the triple jump with sophomore
Jennifer Espinoza (Santa Fe HS) earning a
share of first place in the pole vault.
