The Cerritos College
women's track and field team placed a solid second place
on Thursday at the South Coast Conference All teams
Invitational, which was held at Falcon Stadium. The team
earned 138 team points and only trailed Mt. San Antonio,
who recorded 277 team points. Next up for the Falcons is
the Bakersfield Relays, which will be held on Friday and
Saturday.
Several field events
turned out well for the team, led by the sophomore
triple jump pair of
Portia Ford
(Long Beach Poly HS) and
Le'Sauna
Johnson (Long Beach Poly HS), who came in
fifth and sixth place, respectively. Ford posted a best
jump of 35' 9 1/2", with Johnson right behind at 35' 7
1/2". As for freshman thrower
Maria
Rodriguez (Bell HS), she placed third in
the shot put with a toss of 38' 6 1/4", which was better
than any other community college competitor.
In the relay races,
the Falcons came in fifth place in the 800-meter relay
race in a time of 1:46.54, which was comprised of Ford,
freshman
Marie Leroux (Fountain Valley HS),
sophomore
Amanda
Rosencrantz (Kennedy HS) and freshman
Khandie Brooks
(Dorsey HS). In the 1600-meter medley, Brooks,
Leroux, Ford and Rosencrantz came in seventh place in a
time of 4:04.42. Sophomore
Maria Vargas
(Downey HS) placed 15th in the 3000-meter run in
a time of 11:36.02, which was bested by only five other
community college runners.
