- Falcons placed second in conference meet

The Cerritos College
women's track and field team finished in a solid second
place on Thursday at the South Coast Conference All
Teams Invitational, which was held at Falcon Stadium.
The team earned 138 team points and only trailed Mt. San
Antonio, who recorded 277 team points. Next up for the
Falcons is the Bakersfield Relays, which will be held on
Friday and Saturday.
The Falcons earned
three first place finishes at the meet, with sophomore
Amanda
Rosencrantz (Kennedy HS) winning the 400
meters in a time of 57.88, while she placed fifth in the
200 meters in a time of 26.31. Joining her in the top
five in the 400 meters were freshman
Marie Leroux
(Fountain Valley HS), who came in third place,
while freshman
Khandi Brooks
(Dorsey HS) placed fourth. The 400-meter relay
team of Brooks, Rosencrantz, Leroux and freshman
Angelica
Negrete (Western HS) defeated their
closes competition by nine seconds, as they turned in a
time of 4:00.68. Negrete also ran the 800 meters and
placed second in a time of 2:20.00, while the 400-meter
relay team came in second place. That quartet included
sophomore
Tavonia Clay (Moskegan, MI HS), Leroux,
Brooks and Rosencrantz.
In the field events,
freshman
Maria
Rodriguez (Bell HS) won the shot put with
a toss of 40' 5", with freshman teammate
Jarvina
McClain (El Rancho HS) coming in fourth
place at 31' 2". Sophomore
Portia Ford
(Long Beach Poly HS) came in third place in the
triple jump (34' 6 3/4") and fourth in the long jump
(15' 8 1/2).
