04.22.08 - CERRITOS PULLS AHEAD IN SCC PRELIMS

    At the South Coast Conference Preliminaries, which where held at Cerritos College on Tuesday, the Falcon women's track and field team had three individual winners, while five others recorded second place finishes. The Falcons who lead the team scoring with 107 points, will also serve as hosts for the conference finals, while will start at noon on Friday.  The top nine finishers in events that were not finals, advance to the championships. Five events were finals, which accumulate points toward the team championship, and the Falcons lead second place Mt. San Antonio, who has 53 points, while El Camino College is third with 26. The top six finishers in the finals events advance to the Southern California Preliminaries, which will be held at Bakersfield College.

    Already advancing to the SoCal Prelims with first place finishes are freshman Jessica Barfield (Lynwood HS), who won the triple jump with a leap of 37' 6 3/4", while freshman teammate Brandi McCall (Norwalk HS) came in third place. Freshman Whitney Ashley (J.W. North HS) captured the discus championship with a toss of 142' 5", with sophomore Jarvina McClain (El Rancho HS) in second place at 134' 6". The team's third winner was freshman Rachel Butler (Calvary Chapel HS), who captured the javelin, as the Falcons took the top four spots.
