02.14.08 - CERRITOS SWEEPS FIELD EVENTS IN NON-CONFERENCE MEET

    The Cerritos College women’s track and field team took first place in seven of the eight field events in their three-team non-conference meet on Thursday, as they defeated Orange Coast College (111-65) and Saddleback College (111-20) to put their season record at 2-0. The team will now host the Cerritos Invitational this Friday and Saturday.

    In addition to winning seven of the eight field events, the Falcons took the top three spots in three of the four throwing events, while they placed second in the one field event they didn’t win. Freshman Karen Guravska (El Dorado HS) won three field events, as she captured the high jump (5’ 2”), long jump (15’ 7) and javelin (116’ 4), with freshman Whitney Ashley (J.W. North HS) winning the hammer throw (131’ 6½”) and coming in second place in the discus (121’ 5”) and the shot put (35’ 6¼”).

    The Falcons won six running events, including both relay races. In the 400-meter relay, the team of freshman Brittany Stewart (Cypress HS), sophomore Yasmin Webb (Buena Park HS), sophomore Yatshica Johnson (Ontario HS/Mt. San Antonio College) and freshman Sade Williams (Long Beach Poly HS) posted a time of 51.91. In the 1600-meter relay, Stewart, sophomore Marie Leroux (Fountain Valley HS), Williams and Webb beat both teams by 17 seconds, with a clocking of 4:09.86. Stewart also came in second in the 100 meters (13.62) and 200 meters (27.52), while Williams won the 200 meters (25.85).
